The North Canterbury Education. Board yesterday confirmed the Jippointraent of Miss A. W. Eiordan as mistress, and of Miss E. F. Ferguson as assistant-mistress, at Highbank.

Mr E. H. Lomare.,. the well-known, organist, has taken the Liverpool City Council aback by refusing point-blank to give recitals in Liverpool, in supportof his application for the position ofcity organist. He considers it un- , dignified that a musician of his standing should be asked to play on approval, and points out that Liverpool has had many opportunities of hearing him. A similar stand was taken by Mr J. Maughan Baniett with regard to applying and playing in competition for tho position of - City Organist of Auckland, and ho finally was offered! and accepted the position.

The death took place at Hastings onSunday night of an old resident, Mr James Synions, at the age of 45. ~H« J was one of the pioneors of flasmilling in Manawatu, and four years ago took, up a farm in Hawke's Bay. Sir Tan Hamilton,: who goes first to the Far East by way of Siberia, is accompanied by BrigadierGeneral Ellison, of the General Staff,.. and Major Madocks, who is military secretary. The' delegation is not expected to return to England for almost a year.
