(From Our Own Correspondents). LONGBEACH. School Concert. - The annual concert in aid ■of ,the prize fund of the Longbeach School was heid in the S'choolroenr on Friday night, and, despite the stormy state'of tho weather, was numerously attended. A stage had been, erected, and this, together with the rest of the. room, I was decorated with flags and bunting. The Chair was occupied by Mr John McLauchlan (Chairman of the School Committee), who briefly addressed those present, and in doing so referred to the satisfactory condition of the school, as well as to certain improvements i that had been effected on the premises. A lengthy and w Tell ordered programme^, consisting of solos, chor- ! uses, and recitations was sußmitted, and was highly appreciated by the [large ; gathering. Praise is /due to Miss Watson for her efforts; in training tho school girls, who contributed nine of the items on the programme in a manner reflecting credit on the mistress and their teacher. The following contributed items during the evening -.—Piano duet, Misses Schneider; vocal solos, Misses Schneider, Taylor, O. Watson, Isa Gluyas, D. Hopwood, Smith, Lee, and Mrs Chesman, and Messrs F. Jaine and Wm. Hopwood ; vocal duet, Misses.Jaine; solos and chorus, school children • recitation, Miss Lee. Misses Watson, Gluyas, and Schneider acted as accompanists). On the motion of Mr W. W. Bicldick, a hearty vote of thanks was accorded to the contributors to the programme, and the concert was brought to a close with the singing of a verse of the National Anthem. A dance followed, and was kept iip with spirit for several hours. Mr J. Smith made an efficient M.C., while the music was supplied by Messrs Houlton and Robb, and Miss *Soal. Refreshments were dispensed during the evening.
