The latter numbered about 12,000, and offered -a. most desperate, heroic resistance, but by 2.30 p.m. they were totally defeated with the loss of 2000. The British lost five officers and 24 men killed, and 142 wounded The following day Tokar surrendered and the;rebel garrison fled.
