George Matthews, a muffin-seller, was charged 'at AVillesden recently with " ringing a noisy instrument for " the . parpose° of selling muffins."- The Magistrate-enquired if this was merely the~ pleasant tinkling sound to which ' they had grown, accustomed 'for so many years, and on being informed that it was an ordinary muffin bell, he discharged the. accused, as he did not consider the bell a " noisy instrument" within the meaning of the Act.
