GENERAL LABOURERS.
SYMPATHY OF OTHER UNIONS
Per Press Association.
• AUCKLAND, February 27. A series of resolutions passed last night by various unions of workers seems to indicate that their sympathy is with . the General Labourers' Union and with the Federation of Labour. The Auckland Drivers' Union, at a largely-attended meeting, unanimously passed;- a resolution condemning the action:of the City Council and .other employers -assembled in inference in refusing to giy© the General Labourers' Union an opportunity to state the case for the, workers. The Coachworkers, at a largely-attended meeting, unanimously adopted the following resolution : "This meeting of the Auckland Coachworkers' Union emphatically condemns the action of the Mayor and the City Council in refusing to meet representatives of the General Labourers' Union and Federation of Labour for the purpose of discussing working conditions, and protests against the City Council using its power, conferred by the citizens, solely in the interests of the employing class on the present occasion. The feeling of the tramway men is officially noted as follows: —"This committee of management of thfc Auckland Tramways' Union considers the action of the Mayor and City Council in refusing to meet delegates of the General Labourers' Union in conference as most reprehensible and unworthy of a public body elected by popular vote. We represent a Union that is liable at any moment to be called out on strike in defence of our fellow unionists. In order to x^revent such drastic action we call upon the Mayor and Council to reconsider the position before it is too late." ■'■
