HIS TRIALS AND TROUBLES. LONDON, February 27. In the case in which he was fined £100 for contempt of Court,; Mr Bottomley was subjected to a searching cross-examination,- directed to show that "John Bull" denounced financial swindles and afterwards published their advertisements. Bottomley admitted that he authorised a barrister to hint to the Prudential Company's representatives that he was willing to publish no further attacking articles if the Prudential Company agreed to his bankruptcy scheme. - The/ Judges said that Bottomley's evidence chiefly convinced them that the charge of blackmail had been established" It would be useless to inflict a heavy fine, since the creditors would have td pay i it. Lowe, who is well known in the West End twice knocked down Bottomley. Lowe states that the quarrel commenced a year ago at Edinburgh during a pantomime season. The "Express" states that Bottomley had been dining at Romano's with Miss Peggy Primrose, an actress, who is Mrs Audley Lowe.
