Stocks arc reactionary because of the threatened ' English coal strike, but are hardly afteeted by Mr Roosevelt's attitude. LONDON, February 27. Mr Roosevelt stated, "My. hat is withe ring. It is going to stay there." * am- Washington- correspondent of the limes" states £hat the-declaration was caused excitement and heralds the bitterest contest since the Civil War. Mr Taft's lack of political experience l has alienated the extreme Republican*. Mr Roosevelt's enemies accuse him of treachery and inability to subordinatepolitics, decency and personal dignity to the dictates of a spiteful, intolerant' nature. His friends" urge that Air Roosevelt's Radical bark is worse thanhis bite. The outlook is obscure. Mr Roosevelt will be helped by his skill as a political Press agent, but tho Republican machinery is in Mr Taft's hands. Mr Roosevelt appeals mainly to the West, while tho eastern Statespreponderate in the Republican- convention. .
