SOUTHLAND v. SOUTH CANTERBURY.

INVERGARGILL, December 25. I Southland played their first game in the Hawke Cup competition at Rugby j Park to-day, when they met the South Canterbury eleven. The weather and wicket were both good, and a cross wind was in evidence. The visitors won the toss and'went first to the wicket, but outside Donohue they did npt shape too well, six wickets being clown for 73. At the luncheon adjournment Doriohue had 63 to his credit, when Raymond clean bowled him. At this stage, Douglas (21) was the only other man to make runs. The innings closed after 2 1 hours 5 minutes at the wicket for 111 runs. Southland has lost 8 wickets for 115 runs. Watkin made 30.
