TROUBLE WITH DOCKERS AND
TRANSPORT WORKERS

The non-unionist difficulty arose in the Nelson and Colne' districts, owing to the Weavers' Union declining to recognise a separate trade union which the Catholics created in consequence of a secularist resolution adopted by the Trades Union Congress. LONDON, December. 24, The Dundee strike has been settled, the carters' minimum pay being ad-vanced-2s weekly, and the dockers'! one halfpenny per hour. LONDON, December 23; Transport workers blocked gargo fp^r Duitdee at Leitli, Hull, Grangemputli,, and Liverpool. Shipping firms, arguing that the dockers' strike is now a national one, -have' withdrawn their propo&ed terms of compromise, and the dickers have replied that the decision may possibly lead to an international strike. [. Sir G. R. Askwith mediates in the | trouble. ' LONDON, December 24. The strike of NeWcastle-on-Tyne carters has been settled on a. basis of a shilling a week advance. "The Times" deolares that the demand for a minimum wage is one of the untoward results of the eight hours system. The men are now earning less than formerly.
