LONGBEACH.
School Treat. The annual treat m connection with the Lon^beach School was held on Friday, at the Hinds River. The spot chosen for the picnic was an ideal ■one, and the weather being especially line, the onting was exceedingly pleasant. The children, with their parents, arrived on the ground about dinner time, and no time was lost m preparing for that important function which was to allay the hunger that had been caused by the pleasant ride m the fresh
and balmy air. This part of the programme being over, many of the children enjoyed themselves paddling m the river, while others equally enjoyed themselves m racing, skipping, rounders, etc. This went on until tea time, when all were again refreshed with, the "cup that cheers." The children were then assembled, and the chairman of the School Committee (Mr John McLauchlan), m a short speech, addressed them, and presented each of them with a prize. He wished all a "Merry Christmas" and a "Happy New Year," and three ringing cheers being given by the children, the day's outing was brought to a close, everyone having enjoyed himself to the full.
