IMPROVEMENT SOCIETY.

The final meeting of the Church of Christ Improvement.. Society „for . 1911 was held m the Church last evening, and took the form of a social. There was a good attendance of members andfriends, and Mr W. Carroll occupied the 'chair. A good programme of recitations, ■ songs, readings and games was carried out, the following contributing: Misses Messent, R. Jamieson, Bradshaw, and Messrs W. Carroll, Blackwood, Readhead, F. W. Greenwood, Bradshaw, Milsom and G. Johns. Before refreshments were handed round, Mr W. Hewitt was called on to make a speech and took for his subject, "The Society and Critic." He gave an outline of the benefits ■-.derived from attending the Society, and also paid a high tribute to Mr Greenwood, who had acted as critic during the year. The Society, he said j 1-was losing Mr Greenwood next month, but through, his kind and useful criticism, he had no doubt that m years to come, when some members of the Society distinguished themselves, Mr Greenwould would accept the credit as, through him, the members had been started m the, proper way. He concluded by asking Mr Greenwood to accept from the members of the Society a pair of military brushes and case, as a token of their esteem and keen appreciation of the critic's work. Mr Greenwood briefly replied, and stated that his greatest reward would be to hear of some members of the Society doing good work through any help he Had given them. He heartily thanked them all, and would ever remember the pleasant and profitable evenings they had spent together. After refreshments had been handed round, the members sang "For They are Jolly Good Fellows," and finished up with " Auld Lang Syne."
