LONGBEACH.

The annual concert in aid of the prize fund of the Longbeaeh 'School was held in the Schoolroom on Friday j night. The evening was a fine one, and there was a large gathering. The room was beautifully decorated with flowers, flags, and bunting, and presented a pleasing appearance. Mr John McLauchlan (Chairman of the School Committee) presided, and in his introductory remarks made reference to the present satisfactory', condition of the school. TheT programme was a lengthy and well orderedVne; a considerable number of the items were rendered by the echool children, who had been efficiently trained by Miss Watson. Solos were also rendered by Miss Watson, Messrs Hopwood, Tilley, Brand, and Knight; recitations by Miss Graham and Mr W. Stevens; club swinging by Miss Hayman; piano solo by Mies, Schneider; bones, Mr Knight. The Loiigbeaoh Band, under Mr Glucas, also gave two items and were well received. Misses Watson, Gluya< Dove and Schneider acted as accompanists. A vote, of thanks, moved by Mr W>. W. rfiiddicfc>-"\Was-'M'eor4eft-t.O;;the--:contribu-- ltors, and-a special^ one to Mies Watson for training;the: children. The concert closed with, a verse of the National Anthem. A dance followed, Mr W. Jt Smith acting as M.C., ajid the I^ongbeach Band providing the music. Refreshments were served during the evening.
