WELLINGTON, August 19
At the Supreme Court to-day Robert Parratt was sentenced to twelve months' imprisonment for a cowardly assault on a man with whom he had been drinking.
AUCKLAND, August 19
Among the cases set down for hearing at the Supreme Court was an action by Rupert Hosting, dentist, of Rarotonga, against William Henry Grove, merchant of Auckland, with interests in the Islands, for £1000 damages for alleged slander, in a reply to a criticism by the plaintiff Upon the administration of the Gook Islands, published in the Wellington newspapers. The defendant denied the truth of a statement made in a letter to Dr Dawson, lately resident medical officer of Rarotonga. Dr. Dawson, Hosking and Reynolds figure in the report by the Chief Justice dealing with Island administration. The action for slander has been discontinued.
