LONGBEACH.
A meeting of the Longbeach Road Board was held l on Saturday last. Present: Messrs W. I- Lill (chairman), G, W. Body, W. J v Taylor, and T. Mackay. , - ■ .■.. Mr G Harper wrote forwarding opinions as to the Board's liability in connection with the diversion of the watercourse at Flemington.—Received. The Ashburton County Council wrote asking for the Board s opinion as to the desirability of destroying small birds, and stating that the Council intended calling a meeting pf ratepayers to' discuss the matter in three weeks' time.—Resolved "That--this Board is of opinion that it is desirable to continue the destruction of small birds; also, that the Board's members would attend the public meeting of ratepayers to deal with the question." : A letter was received from the Ashburton County Council on the small bird question, stating that they were prepared to pay, on certificate, 9d per dozen for heads of small birds. The following alterations were ordered to be made on the valuation roll 1: Nicoll Bros, to W. Whearty, J. Williams to A. S. Haymaiv W. Squires to A. H. Parish, and W. Harding .to H. B.Day., The • Coldstream , Road ' Board wrote acknowledging- receipt of the Board's letter regarding records of South Road, and enclosing account for work done on Poplar and Trigpole Roads.—Received, and the account paid.
The Coronation .•■■■Memorial ■ Committee, wrote regarding/? contributions to the, llome for Incurable Consumptives.—* Decided to consider the matter at nexi? meetiiag. ' v Mr H. T. Whiting and others wrote" asking the Board to replace pipes -on Griffith's Road washed away by the late heavy rains .-r—Resolved to refer the matter to the County Council.
Mr. R. A; Pearse and others wrote desiring the Board to complete shingling of Gartartan Road.^—Decided that the matter receive the Board's consideration when shingling the Main Road.
Mr JT.. T. McQuilkin and a> number of other ratepayers wrote requesting the Board to take into consideration, in fhe spring or early summer, the shingling of the Railway Reserve Road.—Resolved- to give the matter attention in due course.
Mr John Bell and others wrote requesting the Board to put in a stank in Wheatstone' drain; also requesting that Mr Anderson be compelled to put the water in its proper course.—Resolved to approach the County Council with a view to getting that body to take over the control of the drain.
The Ranger's report referred to several cases of trespass on the roads.— The report was received. The tender of A. Spring for shingling portion of the boundary of Longbeach and Waterton Road was accepted.
Mr Taylor reported that he had not yet disposed of the trees on the Ashton gravel reserve.—-Resolved to leave the matter in Mr Taylor's hands with full power to act. Messrs M. Friedlander and D. Ma-c----donald waited on the Board and asked that provision be made for an outlet near the new bridge on the Middle Park Road.;—Resolved that the surveyor meet Messrs Friedlander and Macdonald on the road, and take what action might be thought fit.
Mr S. Beach waited on the Board and asked that a stank in the Wheatstone drain be removed.-—Mr Beach was informed of the Board's proposed action. . Mr Body brought up the matter of obtaining a small grading machine.—lt was resolved to endeavour to obtain a trial of the machine at some convenient date.
A number of minor works were left in the hands of the surveyor to attend tO. : •' ' '
Accounts amounting to £84 14s 8d being passed for payment, the meeting terminated.
