THEATRICAL COMBINATION.
MELBOURNE, August 10. The objects of the WilliamfsonClarke combine aro to reduce tho cost of the production of plays, which during the last four or five x years has doubled, mainly oiving to tho increase ot royalties and salaries, also to raise the artistic tone of productions brought out and regulate the dates a,nd. nature of the attractions touring Aus- ■ tralasia. Amongst tho theatres' taken over by tho combination are tho Opera House, Wellington,, and Theatre Royal, Christchurch. Ten to twelve expensive companies will be kept touring Australia and New Zealand.
