SUPREME COURT SESSIONS.

Per Press Association. AUCKLAND, May 22. The criminal sessions of the Supreme Court opened in Auckland to-day. Mr Justice Chapman, in his charge to the Grand Jury, referred to the large number of cases, twenty-five bills being presented, and said that no doubt the larger proportion of criminal cases in Auckland, compared with other centres, was due to the greater population. Ho commented favourably on the absence of sexual cases. Frank Stokes, alias Tozer, for forgery and uttering, was sentenced to twelve months' imprisonment and three years'. reformatory treatment. Hape Tauara, alias King, for forgery and uttering, was sentenced to two years' imprisonment and declared an habitual criminal. .
