Takapuna C.'s Winter Meeting.
Jockey Seriously Injured. AUCKLAND, May 20. Tho opening day's racing in connection -with the Takapuna Jockey Club's Winter Meeting took place on the club's course at the North Shore this afternoon. The weather, although cold, was beautifully fine, and there was a large attendance. The sum of £12,918 was passed through the totalisator, an increase of £5316 over last years' turnover. Results : Maiden Plate. —Ruatangata 1, Haku 2, St. Amans 3. Won by a length and a half. Time, Imin 33 4-ssec. Pony Handicap.—Mighty Atom 1, Miss Stella 2, Red Lupin 3. Won by a length. Time, Imin 12sec. Empire Handicap.—Domino 1, Sea Elf 2, Electrakoff 3. A great finish, heads separating the first three horses. Time, 2min 16 l-ssec. Maiden Hurdles. —Miss Explosion 1, Captain Paul 2, Denbie 3. Won easily by two lengths. Time, 3min 7 l-ssec. Ngataringa. Handicap.—La-'y Betty 1, Blue Mount 2, Tirescome 6. Won by a length. Time, Imin 14sec. During the running of the Ngataringa Handicap, Countree fell, bringing Falchson and Jolie Fille down. The riders of the last two were uninjured, but O'Shea, the rider of Countree, sustained a fracture of the frontal bone of the skull, and was conveyed to a private hospital in a serious condition. Haiiraki Hurdles. —Don Quex 1, Delegate 2, Sol 3. Won by a length. Time, 3min 563ec.
Royal Handicap.—Sir Artegal 1, Elegance 2/Captain Soult 3. Won easily by a length and a half. Time, Imin 33 2-ssec.
