ACCIDENTS AND DEATHS.
Per Press Association. WANGANUI, May isx. A seventeen-year-old girl named Nellie Delaney. committed suicide yesterday afternoon by jumping into the river. It is said that as a result of chastisement by her father she threatened to drown herself,' and forthwith put th« threat into action: GREYMOTJTH,. May 21. An accident occurred at the Gtira tunnel works on Wednesday night. Ten men were coming out on the eleven o'clock shift, and the trolley on which they were mounted, when going at a considerable speed, ran into a rake of trucks. The men were all thrown out. One had his head cut rather severely, another had two fingers broken, a third had his shoulder hurt, and the others -were more or less injured. CHRISTCHURCH, May 22. Yesterday morning a man named J. Johnston, who was fishing in the river Heathcote, near the old tannery, discovered the body of an infant floating in the stream. He communicated with the police, and the body was taken to the morgue by Constable "Wootton. It was ascertained that the body was that of a new-born, fully-developed male infant. There was a bruise on the head, which was much swollen. The umbilical cord was not tied. A single man named Charles Cohen, twenty years "of age, a tram conductor, fell* off a car in Linwood on Saturday and struck his head: He was conveyed to the Hospital, where it was found* that he was suffering from concussion of the brain and other injuries.
