DESTRUCTION OF AN IRISH

CASTLE

Per Press Association — Copyright. LONDON, March 7. Castle Freko, Cork, the residence of Lord Carbery, has been burnt. The building had historical associations. Except for the antique paintings and furniture, the destruction was complete. The loss is estimated at £25,000.

CHRISTCHUItCH, March 8. A fire at Ashley last evening resulted m the destruction of the shop and residence of Mr J. Cosgrove, storekeeper and postmaster. The postal matter and some furniture were saved by Mr Cosgrove after strenuous work. The building was insured for £100, the stock for £75 and the furniture for £50 m the lloyal Exchange Office, and Mr Cosgrove estimates his loss at £200 above those amounts.
