The United States Immigration Commission has issued an extraordinary report .on the steerage conditions' of Transatlantic liners, based on voyages made by its secret agents. It is stated that the sleeping quarters aro filthy ; that the male stewards, the crew, and the male steerage passengers on many steamships crowd the women's compartments ; that their language and manners are revolting and insulting. The Cunard, White Star and other companies indignantly deny the statements.
