A double-deck truck containing about SO lambs passed through 1 Ashburton to the Fail-field Freezing Works this afternoon. The lambs came from Herbert, and were in good condition, averaging in weight about 321bs. On Monday night the inmates of a house in Havclock street west were disturbed, after retiring, by the sound of footsteps in one"of the rooms. Ono of the adult members of the family, who I had heard, as she thought, some one moving about the house, was convinced the following morning that her sense of hearing had not'deceived her, for a child who had slept in another room gave a positive assurance that a man had entered his room during tho night. Nothing was missed from the dwelling, but, in view of such an incident, it would' be wise for residents to lock their houses securely every night.
