NEW ENGINES FOR THE RAILWAYS.

WELLINGTON, September 17. i The Government has accepted .the tender pf Scott Bros., Cliristchurch, for the construction of 10 four-cylinder balanced railway engines, Class A. This is part of the construction policy inaugurated to meet the increasing requirements of the railway business. The cost of the engines will probably exceed £40,000. Ten Class B engines will be put in hand at the Government shops at Addington in addition to a similar number of side-tank engines of the N. F. Class for suburban work, j The Department also intends to build 600-L waggons of the eight-wheeled bogey type. |
