WATER-POWER REGULATIONS.

FURTHER PROTESTS.

HOKITIKA, June 23. Another series of public meetings to protest against the regulations for water-power was held this evening at Kanieri, a mining township in the vicinity of the town. Similar resolutions to those passed at the public meetings held here and at Rimu last week were passed, and strong exception was taken to the statement of the Minister of Mines as contained in his interview with a Wellington Post reporter, especially the -ortion where the Minister is alleged to have Eaid that the agitation for concessions was being engineered for political purposes, and that he was not taking it seriously. The meeting was very largel" attended, and all the speakers emphatically repudiated the character of, the allegations. Mr Borkin, president of the Rimu Miners' Association, attended the meeting, and stated that the Association had met that evening and passed a resolution asking for a copy of the protest reported to have been sent from the Rimu miners, and that the Minister of Mines be asked to make a special effort to visit the district and make himself personally acquainted with the specal conditions, when he would find that the alleged monopoly' of' the synjjicjite was sheer nonsense.
