WELLINGTON, June 24. Mr Carroll has received a telegram' from Sir Joseph Ward from Adelaide, stating that he has cabled as follows to .■•*' the President of the South African Convention: "On behalf of the, Go- ~™ ernment and people of New Zealand, I desire to offer my heartiest congratulations upon .the consummation of the great work of South African union. I am satisfied it marks a distinct step forward, not only in the prosperity of South Africa itself, but in.the;consolidation of the Great Empire to which we are all proud to belong and are 86 ■ ' anxious to see strengthened."
