POTATOES FOR HORSES.
Potatoes as food for horses are of more value than even carrots, especially where they are worked hard, such as those used m ploughing. The proper method is to cook them and serve them with'a judicious hand, so thatj there is not too much relaxation of the'bowels as a result. When this is done> t!ie animals will not need so mucli grain." "Of'course, the potatoes can be chopped up m their raw state and mixed with chaff, but it is better to boil them whero possible, as there is less risk of purging. An authority once asserted that 151bs of potatoes yielded as much nourishment as 4ilbs of oats. Then, again, Yon Thaver asserts that three bushels of oats are equivalent to 1121bs of hay; and Curwon, who experimented extensively m feeding horses with potatoes, said that half an acre would go' further than four acres of hay. When potatoes are given m this way to horses they do not require so much water.
