The Australians had lost three wickets for 78 runs, when rain stopped play. When the Australians commenced their innings, the weather was breezy i but sunny and the wicket was drying. Hirst opened the attack, and MeAlister, playing forward, placed the second ball into Myers's hands at short leg—one for nil. Rhodes removed Bardsley's leg stump when the scora stood at 12. Noble was dismissed by Rothery taking a running catch all long-off and the third wicket was down for 40. Ransford played ..a vigorous, resourceful game, marred by two chances. He was missed behind the wicket by Hunter when 4, and by Radcliffe at rnid-on when 16. At 2 o'clock rain stopped play, and, continuing, caused the abandonment of the match.
