THE LONGEST TUNNEL IN THE WORLD.

The Caucasian Post has authority for the announcement that the construction of tho long-projected transmontane railway between the termini of Mzchet and Vladikavkas, a distance of about 120.miles, has now been finally decided on, and will be commenced probably next spring. It involves the piercing of the lofty Caucasian range by a tunnel a little over fourteen miles (twenty-one versts) m length. This will be the longest tunnel m the world, the Simplon, which now holds that distinction, being a little over 12i miles long. The work of construction will occupy about ten yearsj and the cost is computed at £6,500,000.
