CHEAP CABLE RATES.

Per Press Association. —Copyright. Received December 1, 1.42 p.m. BRISBANE, December 1. Mr Milward, manager of the Pacific Cable Board, arrived by the Aorangi. On being interviewed, he said that the cable continues to progress. He regarded the penny rate as impossible, if it was intended to produce sufficient revenue to cover interest and expenses; otherwise it would require an enormous subsidy. Increased traffic would necessitate'the duplication of cables many times. He believed there was a possibility of the existing rates being considerably reduced, and he woiild favour some reduction if on paying lines. He lioped to see the wireless system .extended to the islands of the Pacific.
