TARANAKI PETROLEUM.

NEW PLYMOUTH, October 19. The indications of No. 2 bore of the Taranaki Petroleum Company are exciting much local interest. To-day ten barrels of oil were collected from the natural flow, but the pressure was still too strong to permit of a steady run. There is absolutely not a vestige of water inside the casing, thus the greatest obstacle to success has been overcome. The oil, which was up to a 900 ft level in the pipe on Saturday, is still rising, and this evening is at 2000 feet, within 200 feet of the top of the casing, over which it periodically spouts. From present indications, the oil should be flowing steadily tomorrow.
