ARBITRATION COURT.

DUNEDIN, July 20. At the Arbitration Court this morning, an application was made by the Union Steam Ship Company for a new award in regard to .wharf labourers, to supersede the one which expired in 1901. •

Mr Belcher said that he appeared for the Union—not to defend, but to draw attention to the extract from the New Zealand Gazette showing clearly that registration had been cancelled; therefore the Union was out of- existence.

After argument, the President said that the Court proposed to go on with the hearing of the dispute. The cancellation which the Registrar purposed to have made had'been informal and would be ignored. The Court fixed next Monday at 10 a.m. for the hearing, and if Mr Belcher did not appear that was his concern. If ho was_ not satisfied that the Court had jurisdiction he could apply to the Supreme Court for prohibition.
