ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES

WELLINGTON, April 7. A train from the Hutt collided with a grocer's cart at Thorndon to-day. The. driver of the cart, James. Carson, was thrown out, and suffered serious injuries. He was unconscious at the hospital at a late hour to-night. CHRISTCHURCH, April 8.
At Rangiora at about noon yesterday, Mr H. Jones, painter, was thrown out of.his trap in Ashley street through the horse SAverving and falling. He was taken home insensible, but became semi-conscious during the afternoon. The extent of his. injuries was not known last evening.
CHRISTCHURCH, April 8. The police have received information that a child of three years, JJtfinnie Allen Rossiter, daughter of Richard Rossiter, of Cooper's creekj near Oxford, died yesterday from the effects of burns.; The child was playing in the kitchen while her parents were out milking, and went so near the fire that her night-gown caught. The girl was, severely burned before her criea attracted help. DUNEDIN, April 7. At the inquest this morning on the body of Joseph Trinder, found near the wharf on Sunday, the doctor who conducted, the post mortem said, the deceased's stomach showed signs of chronic alcoholism. He had also valvular disease of the heart, but the doctor /was of the opinion that death was due to drowning. A majority-of the jury was in favour of bringing in a simple verdict of found drowned, but it was not a unanimous verdict.
