SUPREME COURT.
I Per Pr"ss Association. TIMARU, February 4. The criminal session of the Supreme Court opened here this morning, before Judge Denniston, who said the district was to'be congratulated on its comparative freedom from crime. There, were only three cases, all from outside Timaru. Henry Cox, a youth of 19. was sentenced to three months' imprisonment for a breach of the Prohibition Act.
- Alfred Sims, for attempted rape, near Ashburton, was sentenced to 7 years', the judge remarking that it was not safe to allow such a man to mix with society, The accused is only 20 years of age, and in 1904 he was convicted at Wellington for carnally know ing a girl 10 years of age. WELLINGTON, February 4. At the Supreme Court to-day John Moft'ett and Charles Mack were charged with breaking and entering and theft. Mack , was sentenced to two years' imprisonment, and Moffett to two years, and declared to be an habitual criminal.
