GISBORNE, December 2. The body of a middle-aged man, well dressed, was found floating in the suri on Waikanae beach this morning. It appeared not to have been in thewater very long. The arms were folded across the breast. There was a wound on the back of the head, from which blood was flowing. In the hip pocket was a Panama hat, and in the vest a key with sixpence attached. A piece of blue paper with John Owens, Enfield Road, Napier written thereon, was found. The body has not been I identified locally. It is supposed that I the man must have fallen from. the steamer Waikare yesterday. He has not been reported as missing. DARGAVILLE, December .2.

Edward Mulhern, about nine years of age, while bathing at Kaihu Creek, on Sunday afternoon, being unable to swim, got out of his depth and was drowned in the presence of his mother, who made a determined but ineffectual attempt to rescue him. The body has not yeb been recovered. HAWERA, December 2. A boy named Hector Morrison, eight years old son of a settler at Wai'hi, was caught in the belting of a milking machine on Saturday, and was so badly injured, his limbs being broken, that he died yesterday.
