WELLINGTON, November 30. Three of the four actions for damages against the City Council, in connection I with the Brooklyn tramway accident) last year, have been settled out of court. In the cases of Thos. Bell, of Nelson, who was severely injured, and whose wife was killed, the plaintiff has accepted £1100, including costs: In one case he claimed £2000 for the death of his wife, and in the other £501 on account of his own injuries. The claim of £300 made by Arthur Smith, another passenger, has been settled for £125. The South . British Insurance Company will, under a policy issued to the- Council, pay a large proportion of the amount paid to settle the cases.
