A COUNCILLOR OUSTED.

In the Magistrate's Court- at Paeroa on Thursday, Joseph Nathan called on John Cochrane, a county councillor, to show cause why he should not be ousted from office on the grounds that in the month of November, 1905, Cochrane was a contractor and was also duly elected as a member of the Ohinemuri County Council while engaged in carrying on contracts for the council, and that on December 11th, 1905, Cochrane drew money for the work from the council through an agent, Michael Crosby. The evidence of T. N. E. Kenny, county clerk, was to the effect that Cochrane held two contracts on tlie date of the election, these being transferred to J. Brideson on December 7th. The Magistrate, Mr Bush, stated that he was of the opinion that Cochrane. was a contractor till December 7th, and therefore was not eligible to hold office, and he acordingly declared Cochrane ousted, with costs amounting to £5 19s against him.
