LARGEST STEEL DAM IN THE WORLD.
The Hauser Lake dam, near Helena, Montana, which has'just been completed, is said to be the largest of its kind in the world, and is to supply the wa-ter-power to develop electricity for running the Washoe reduction works, the Anaconda railway, to light cities, and operate many of the Butte mines. It will be three weeks before the power is turned on, as it will take this time for the lake to fill. The water will back lip eighteen miles in the river and through the Prickly Pear Canyon, six miles in the valley- below Helena. The dam is 640 ft long and 70ft wide, and is made of steel throughout. Fifteen thousand horse-power will be generated, and this, with the Canyon Ferry plant, will make Helena one of the largest producers of electricity in the coun-
