MOROCCO, August 8. After the bombardment began the Bashaw begged M. Neuvillo, the I'reucl: commander, to stop it, promising to guarantee the restoration, of safety. The consul intimated that a reply war reserved' until another party of sailors had been landed. This done, the consul demanded the disarming of all soldiers and bringing them in chains to the consulate. Accordingly. the Moorish soldiers who fired at the French sailors were led in chains. The consul ■named the Bashaw that these would be shot if the natives continued to threaten the vicinity. The bombardment was then suspended, but was resumed at the Bashaw's request, owing; to the menacing attitude of the tribesmen on the outskirts. Melinite shells, killed and wounded-hundreds.
