GET MARRIED.
"Young man, get married," said Mr T. Waddeilj the new Chief Secretary of New South Wales, at a social gathering of the Women's Social and ' Political League, Having remarked upon the increasing tendeilcy •of present-day woman to enter upon man's domain in commercial and other business life, the Chief Secretary reflectively observed t-hat he did not know whether the effects would be good, except"' that it would tend to make w'onien more independent. It was certain, however, that, to an extent, it interfered with a man's opportunities for making a living, and consequently must interfere with the marriage rate. (Laughter.) " I would like to see every man and woman in New South Wales married," proceeded Mr Wadde]]. '-Many, no doubt, would like te remain free and enjoy a little flirtation sometimes, but men and women would be infinitely more happy if they were wisely mated." The policy of the Government of enabling men to get holdings in the country, to enable them to establish homes of their own, ought, he said, to encourage an increase in the marriage rate. "But," he concluded, very emphatically, "my advice to every young man is : Get married as soon as you can !"
