■■■"." BRISBANE, July 27.' The return match between thi Queensland and New Zealand footbal teams was played this afternoon n pleasant weather. Between 14,000 anc 15,000 people were present. The play was fairly even for the iirs ten minutes. Pearce, of Queensland then sent the ball to Seeling, who fron a mark centred, and Roberts picked up passed to Wallace, who in turn trans ferred to Fryer, who crossed-gthe line Shortly afterwards, the Queenslanc full-back, fumbled the ball, and befon he could recover himself Fryer pouncec down and scored. _ Roberts started a passing rush, anc Wallace feinting, beat the Queensland era, and sending the ball to Fryer-the latter crossed the line unopp6sed. The Queenslanders started the seconc spell with vim, and soon got to a dan gerous position in the All-Blacks twen-ty-five. A misjudged kick gave Frye: an opening, and he kicked to Carmi chael, the Queensland full-back, who being flurried, failed to get the ball and the young Canterbury player, get ting possession from a subsequent scrum, once more scored." At this period of the game, Ne* Zea land lost the services of McDonald ant Hogan, both retiring injured. The Maroons rallied, but only tor r brief period, for Wallace gathering vi the ball in centre field sent it to Fryei on the wing, and the latter beat tin opposing backs and placed the fifth tr? to his credit. Gillett succeeded in add ing the major points, the only try con verted during the game by the Neu ___£__<_ _ic_ors • The brief spell caused by the acci dents increased the vigour of the Queenslanders, who forced their way tr New Zealand's twenty-five, where Car michael, securing a mark, placed a nicf goal. ,■'.., Returning to the.attack by similar niethods, Oxlado got possession, an</ passing to Heaslop, the Latter whippet 1 over, and scored Queensland's first try which. Carmichael failed to convert. The Queenslanders were worrying thf All-Blacks in the..-final minutes of tho game, and Brighton, breaking away from a line-out, scored unopposed, and Carmichael converted.
The game ended immediately afterwards, the scores being: New Zealand 17 points; Queensland, 11. A feature of" the game was that Fryer was the only one to score on the New Zealand side, and, had the placekicking been up to the usual standard the visitors' total would have been much larger. ...-•'•
