Tents for the Distressed.

Me Taft has approved of General Wint's action at Havana in sanding, at the British Minister's instance, a number of army tents to Kingston to shelter the distressed.
London, Jan 23
The owners of the Prinzassiu Victoria Louise have ascertained that an alteration in the harbour occurred before the earthquake, which caused the vessel's stranding. The Mansion JTouse Fund amounts to £24,000. A first instalment has been cabled to Kingston.
Sir E. Orey, in a message to Washington, says: "If an enquiry which is proceeding now showed that Sir A. Swettenham's letter tvas authentic, Britain would deeply regret that en official should have written thus to suoh a gallant admiral, who had rendered such valuable assistance to Britishers in a time of great suffering and distress."
