Dent, General Manager of the Great Southern and Western Railway, Ireland, is the new Chief Commissioner. Proposed Sydnsy Exhibition. The Herald throws cold water on the Sydney exhibition proposal, while the Telegraph thinks it oomnaendable and opportune. Plague. Beisba-ne, Jan 24 A case of plague is reported at Sandgate and two cases at New Farm suburb. The Cooktown Disaster. Many persons whose residences at Cooktown were destroyed, lost everything. Numbers of people were out by flying iron. The pilot ketch, whioh was attending to beacons at the time the storm ooourred, has not since been heard of. A Pilot's Want of Judgment. Hobart, Jan 24 The Marine Board found that the Edeuholm waß lost through want of judgment on the part of Pilot Mullay, And suspended his certificate for six months. The Fedeial Parliament. Meeboubnk, Jan 23 The Federal Parliament meets on February 20fch. Mr Slauger, as an Honorary Minister, will represent the Hocue Department in the House.
