The Universiiy Senate eat this morning. Sir Robert Stout, Ohincellor, in speaking on the strain caused by examinations, suggest* d that the University should undertake the different examination?, and so re'ieve the Education Department. In regard to ihe petition sent to the King, praying him to grant a new charter or Ifltt9rs patent, or oHier form of authority, the petition had been eeot to the Privy Council, but was still ungranted. The Privy Council evidently mistrusted tho New Zealand University, and seemed to be ignorant of the requirements of university edupation. The Senate should at once withdraw the petition, and grant degrees iv accordance with the University statutes.
