Earthquakes and Tidal Waves.
United Press Association—By Rlectrio Telegraph—Copyright. Pebth, Jan 7 The Seismograph Observatory recorded two violent tremors on Wednesday and Satnrday last. Indications occurred as from the South-east Coast of Africa or in Central India. As bearing on the second record, on Eastern Extension officer at Rodriguez, about 380 miles from Mauritius, informed an officer at Cocoa Island that the eea was boiling at Rodriguez and email tidal waves were being experienced. Later od, the water rose higher than it has been known to do before, and boats had to be hauled up out danger- After rising for two hours, the Eea receded.
Napier, Jan 7 A severe shock of earthquake was felt here precisely at midnight on Saturday. Its direction was north and south, and thß duration of the shock was about half-a minute. Kelson, Jan 7 A sharp shock of earthquake of short duration waß felt here at midnight on Saturday.
A rather severe thock of earthquake was felt at 12.5 a.m. yeeterday at Blenheim.
