Sunday School Prizes and Picnics.

The annual prize-giving of the Mayfield Methodist Sunday school took place on Friday evening, wher, in the absence of the Rev. T. J. Wallis, Mr Thomas McDowell took the uhuir. ,Under the efficient leadership of Mr J. Dellow, the school children and teachers rendered some selections from Sankey's hymns, Miss M. L. flight officiating at the organ. Daring the evening songs were given by Massrs J. G. Firth and P. Jarrnan; a dut^ was given by Messrs McLojd-Smitb, of Chrietchurcb, and J. G. Firth ; two recitations weie given by Master Edgar Withell; addresses by Mr J. Dellow andtheKev. W. Ham; and grauiaphone selections weie given by Mr John Trethe^vey, lately returned from a trip to the Old Country. The treasurer, Mr C.W. VVithel 1, showed in his report that the school financially is in an encouraging state. Mr J. G. Firth distributed the prizes, which consisted of a fine selection of books. At the close of the meeting a bountiful sapper was given under the superintendence of Mrs James Dellow,

The combined annual treat of the May, field Methodist, the Mayfield Presbyterian and the Kuapuna Sunday schools was again held at the Downs, by kind permission. With Mb accustomed generosity, Mr John Bargess took tbe children and friends to the place of enjoyment with .his traction engine. After luncheon, a committee conaistiHg of Messrs J. Dollow.Thos. McDowell, Jarman, Withell, BartoD, Painter, Beokett and Ham and Miss Hight, organised a number of races for the children, for whiob a good selection of' useful toys had been procured. The Mayfield Brass Band rendered selections, which were much appreciated. The gathering was a large and rep, resentative one, and at its close cheers were given to the band, to the manager of Mr E G. Wright's estate, to the ladies, and to all who had in any way added to the success of the gathering.
