That Essays must be the bona fide work of competitors, who matt be primary school pupils residing in the Ashbarton Electorate, and must be written ia school hoars under the supervision of the Teaohert and certified to by them. 2. Essays mußtnot exceed 800 words. 3. That all Essays mast be addressed to and be in the hands of the proprietor of the Ashbnrton Mail and Guaudiam not later than SATURDAY, February 16th, 1906. They must be signed in norn de plume only (initials will not' be allowed, and their use will disqualify competitors). The envelope enclosing the Etsay must be endorsed "Prize Competition. Christmas and New Year Holidays." In a separate envelope, endorsed " Prize Competition. Christmas and New Year Holidays, Name only," the norn de plume adopted, and the name and addresß of the writer must be enclosed. 4. The Prize Essays, and any othen which may be deemed of sufficient publio interest will be published in the Ashborton Mail and Guardian, the proprietor of those journals, with the consent of Mr McLacnlan, reserving to himself all publication rights.
