TIDES AT RIVER MOUTHS.
In reply to an inqairy as to the times of high tide at the mouth of the Ashburton, Bakaia, and Eangitata, Mr A. H. Shury has received the following letter from Captain Edwin :—Dear Sir,—-Tours of 12th inst. received. I have gone over the probable times for high water at the Rivers Eakaia, Ashberton, and Bangitata, and am of opinion that if you add 33min to the Dunedin high water, or subtract 17min from Lyttelton high water, you will find the result come within a quarter of an hour of the actual time, but this will of course depend to some extent on whether the wind when South causes this time to be a little earlier, or if from off the land the time may be a little delayed. The mean of the time J of both Lyttelton and lmnedin may be also useful as you suggest.—l remain, yours truly, E. A. Edwin. The times for the next few days, according to Mr Shury's, reckoning, are as follows :— Oct. Aehburton a.m. Ashburton p.m. 21 8.59 9.26 22 9.58 10 33 23 11.13 11.58 24, 12.32 12.33 25 1.18 1.58
