Better Medical Drugs than Alcohol. BIR Victor Horsley, speaking in Norfolk; said that alcohol had obtained a fictitious medical value. Much intensperance was due to alcohol having been given as a medical ,medicine. The advance of science had shown that.. there -were other drugs with a quicker action and none of the ill after effects of alcohol. 10 0 Composition of Wine^ PROFESSOR Mulder, in his work onthe • "Chemistry of Wine," ssya that inV. tke manufacture of wine there are. two" \ main processes—the process of fermentation . and that of clearing—and he tells us that adulteration begins at the very moment the grapes are gathered. He also says that ia the process of fermentation are added (among other things) cream of tartar, bonft charcoal, juniper, and preparations of lead —the latter, if added in the smallest quantity, renrferiiag the wine highly dfileterious. Then conies the process of clearing or " fining," and he says that there are added (among other ingredients* powdered .: marble, gypsum, blood, salt, and sulphurio '■ acid, and also that in sulphurising the casks tha wine may become not unfrequently -" arsenical. 10 0!
