Stdkht, Oct 17 A vessel from the Solomon Islands brings news of the foundering of the American four masted barque Sasquehanna. The crew and two passengers, Mr and Mrs Elwell, arrived in boats safely at the Solomons on September 3rd. , The Sus^uehanna. left Nehone, New Caledonia, on August 23rd for Delaware breakwater, with a cargo of chrome ore. She ran into bad weather shortly sffeer^ When a couple of days out she gradually filled with water. After. • a consultation with the officers the captain decided to abandon her. A heavy sea was runnings and after much difficulty the crew succeeded in launoking the boats, and all wore got safely, aboard..
A course was shaped for the Solomons^ 500 miles distant. The journey occupied a week, and the castaways suffered great; privations owing to exposure, bad weather and the short supply oi food and water. All' behaved splendidly, especially Mrs Elwell. When last seen the Susquehanna, was fast settling down.
