It is fully admitted in political circles that in the event of unjustifiable attaoks Prance and Britain are prepared to translate their professions of friendship into actual support of each other. Sir Edward Grey, in a speech at Manchester, said that if the Liberals were returned to office, they would enter no! engagements inconsistent with or prejudi- J rial to the Anglo-Japanese treaty or the entente with France.
