. ♦ -vi.Auckland, Dee. 28 The results of Christmas business at the Auckland Post Office show a great increase this year as compared with last year. The ) figures relate to and include mail business, from and including Wednesday, Decambar 21 to Saturday, December 21. The total packages received and desoatched were 530,681. These figures show an excess for 1*304 of 21,448 packages of mail matter handled, but last December the p->st office had to deal with mail matter via San Francisco, and another mail via Suez, whereas these mails were not handled during the 1904 Ohristrnas week. It will therefore bo evident i:hafc not only waa thare a substantial actual iacreaoe ijgt tbe Christmas business of the Auckland post office for 1904, but that proportionately the increase vac very much greater than was at first apparent. DirNEDiN, Dec. 28 The business done at the Post Office during the four days from December 21st to December 2£th assumed large proportions. The number of letters and cards posted ware 218.324, received 88,525; books posted 115,228, received 33,213; newspapers posted 45,057, received 33,591; parcels posted 771, received 1457; making a total posted and received of 536,1fii), as against a total of 531,481 for the corresponding period of the previous year. j
